Among the most iconic landscapes in Sicily, there’s a place that looks like it came out of a dream — Turkish Steps (Scala dei Turchi), a dazzling white limestone cliff that dives into the deep blue Mediterranean Sea, located in Realmonte, near Agrigento. Sculpted by wind and waves, this natural wonder offers a breathtaking experience with every step — or stair.
How to Get to Turkish Steps
The Turkish Steps is about 15–20 minutes by car from Agrigento and is easy to reach:
- By car: Take the SS115 and follow the signs to Realmonte, then look for signs pointing to Scala dei Turchi. Paid parking is available in the area.
- By bus: During the summer, there are public bus connections from Agrigento (TUA Line) to Realmonte and Porto Empedocle — just make sure to check updated schedules.
Tip: Arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon for easier parking and the best lighting for photos.
How to Access and Buy Tickets
Since 2025, access is limited in order to protect this fragile site, and a ticket is required.
You need to purchase the €5 pass in advance online, as internet connection on-site is often unreliable.

Best Time to Visit
Scala dei Turchi is magical at any time of day, but two moments truly stand out:
- At sunrise, when the cliff is almost empty and the atmosphere is peaceful — perfect for photography or quiet reflection.
- At sunset, when the white rocks turn shades of gold and pink — a romantic and unforgettable view.
Avoid midday hours in summer — the bright white surface reflects a lot of sunlight and it can get very hot.
What to Do Before or After Your Visit
- Stop by the nearby town of Realmonte for breakfast or a refreshing granita at a local café.
- Relax on the beach right below the cliffs, ideal for a swim.
- Visit the nearby Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Head to Porto Empedocle, the hometown of famous author Andrea Camilleri, and enjoy fresh seafood with a sea view.
Useful Tips
- Wear comfortable shoes — the path to the cliffs is not difficult but requires attention.
- If you’re traveling with children, watch out for slippery edges.
