A Tradition Woven by Hand
A Sicilian crochet class is more than a craft lesson—it’s a cultural journey into a tradition passed down through generations. You’ll discover the techniques once shared among Sicilian women who gathered to create delicate doilies, embroidered fabrics, and decorative pieces for family homes and special celebrations. Through this hands-on experience, you’ll learn the symbolic patterns, methods, and stories behind this timeless art, connecting with the creativity and craftsmanship that still define Sicilian heritage today.
Dance Experience
The Sicilian tarantella is a lively folk dance with roots in 17th-century Southern Italy, traditionally linked to celebrations, harvest rituals, and even ancient healing rites. Each region of Sicily has its own style, performed with colourful costumes and instruments like the accordion, flute, marranzano, and tambourine. Among the most famous versions is “U ballu a chiovu,” danced by farmers after long harvest days. This experience includes a live performance of two tarantella pieces, followed by a 45-minute private lesson to learn the basic steps. Afterwards, enjoy an aperidinner with local cheeses, bruschette, scaccia or pizza, olives, dried tomatoes, homemade bread with local olive oil, and a glass of Sicilian red wine, plus a visit to the watermill.
Bag Workshop
Once a simple woven bag used by farmers to carry grain and produce, the Sicilian coffa has become a symbol of tradition and style, admired even by major fashion houses like Dolce & Gabbana. In this unique workshop, an expert artisan will guide you step by step as you decorate your own coffa, using traditional Sicilian colours, motifs, and embellishments. You’ll learn about the history of this iconic accessory while expressing your creativity through patterns and details inspired by local culture. At the end of the experience, you’ll take home a personalised, handcrafted coffa—an authentic and meaningful souvenir from Sicily.
