Etna Excursions, jeep, cableway or trekking?

 Please note that high altitude excursions, are exclusively managed by volcanological guides, the only ones allowed. Other excursions, at lower altitudes, of easier level, are managed by nature guides or tourist guides.

1. Hiker or difficult/ for people used to sport walking
2. Medium: suitable for people and children over the age of 8, but used to walking.
3. Easy: walks in nature for families with children or people who, for various reasons, do not want to or cannot walk much.

 

4X4 NORTH SLOPE
Thanks to 4×4 buses, it is possible to reach the top or to arrive comfortably by bus at 2850. Here, if weather is good, you will have a breathtaking view of the top active craters.

The prices may vary from 69€ to 140€ depending on the chosen experience. These excursions, are managed by the volcanological guides and the companies that manage the means of transport. You must have a car to get to the starting point located at Piano Provenzana.

1. Etna Top Craters up to 3300m.

Departure by 4×4 bus from 1800m. Lift up to 2800 m, then hike up to 2850 m (50m altitude difference). Bus descent to the 2002 craters and trekking. Return to the starting point 1800m with 4×4 bus. 2. Etna Top Craters up to 2800 at SUNSET .

Departure by 4×4 bus from 1800m. Lift up to 2800 m. Bus 4×4 up to 2800m. Sunset view. Return by bus 4×4. Level: easy. This is just a panoramic walk, less than 2km. Duration 2/3 hours. 1. Etna Excursion to the cave of Serracozzo and the ridge of the Bove valley.

Departure Rifugio Citelli. Start of the trekking on the trail n.723. Visit of the Serracozzo Cave, 1840m. Climb to the Serracozzo Viewpoint up to a maximum altitude of 2170 meters. Positive uphill gradient: 400 m. Trekking descent to the starting point. Total km: 6. Duration 3-4 hours. Suitable for children accustomed to walking. Level: hiking/medium . 1. Etna hiking up to 2900m. Ascent by cable car from the meeting point, rifugio Sapienza, with the guide at the altitude of 1900m to the altitude of 2500m. Trekking up to 2900m altitude for 3km. Positive uphill difference: 500 m. Descent on foot up to 2500m altitude for 4km. Return by cable car. Total km: 7. Duration 4-5 hours. Hiking in 3 stops. First stop, visit of a lava cave. Second stop, very panoramic walk on the craters of 1892. Third stop, easy walk on one of the paths of Etna. Waiting for the sunset and return. It is possible to get the cableway independently. No additional booking or guide is required. Tickets are purchased on site. Arrival at the Sapienza hut (Rifugio Sapienza). You can buy ticket for the cableway and arrive up to 2500m and continue alone until the 2001 crater. Be careful, it is not possible to go beyond a certain altitude without a volcanological guide. It is prohibited by local law in addition to being very dangerous. Cost per person 50€ adults. From 5 to 10 years 30€. From 0 to 4 years free.

Second choice: Cableway + 4×4 bus. Arrival up to 2750m. Here you will find the volcanological guides that will accompany you to the viewpoint of the Bove Valley and back. Descent by 4×4 bus to the 2001 crater. Adult fee 69 euro + 9 guide (mandatory guides). Total ticket 78€. Children from 5 to 10 years 41€ + 9€ guide (mandatory guide). Total 50€. From 0 to 4 years free.
